About Us

Charlie Sylvester, L_AcI opened AcuMediZen back in 2012 and practiced for a number of years as a general practitioner, treating stress, anxiety, digestive issues, pain, men’s/women’s health and much more!

Over time, I began to recognize more of a want and need for the athletes in and around Rochester, as I was approached on numerous occasions by high school, amateur, semi-professional, and professional athletes for alternative methods of recovery, pain management, and athletic enhancement. As a result, I decided to take matters into my own hands and what resulted was AcuMediZen Acupuncture & Sports Medicine.

Being a former high school and college athlete, I had no difficulty making this transition from general practitioner to sports acupuncturist, as I already had an ingrained understanding of the athlete mindset as well as firsthand experience of some of most common and complex injuries that often occur when playing competitive sports.

My continual thirst for knowledge and desire to stay up to date on the latest research and therapeutic techniques sets me apart from other local acupuncturists and professional peers. While my approach may be considered a bit unorthodox from a traditionally conservative standpoint, I offer a unique style of treatment that focuses on getting to the root of one’s issue(s) rather than simply treating the symptom(s) as well as drawing on a number of therapeutic modalities in my tool belt.

Acupuncture as a whole has certainly gained a great deal of popularity in Rochester and other parts of the country and world over the last few years, with traditional acupuncture being the most commonly practiced style. However, I specialize in sports acupuncture which incorporates a unique blend of physical assessment, electro acupuncture, cupping therapy, gua sha, and the application of various therapeutic topicals and liniments.

I urge you to come see for yourself why AcuMediZen Acupuncture & Sports Medicine is Rochester’s premier acupuncture and wellness clinic, and why I am the city’s top sports acupuncturist and alternative pain management specialist. You won’t be disappointed!
